Dr Wong is the Deputy Medical Director (Clinical Services) and a Senior Consultant with the Vitreo-Retinal Service at the Singapore National Eye Centre. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree in 1991. He obtained his Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1998, and in the same year, obtained the Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) degree from the National University of Singapore. Dr Wong completed his fellowship with the Vitreo-Retinal Service in Singapore National Eye Centre in 2001 and a fellowship in advanced Vitreo-Retina at Beetham Eye Institute, Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard Medical School in 2003.
Dr Wong has a distinguished academic track record in Ophthalmology. A Gold Medal award winner, he continues to serve as Examiner in Ophthalmology, National University of Singapore and the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, United Kingdom. He also holds concurrent appointments as Clinical Lecturer in Ophthalmology, National University of Singapore, and Clinical Adjunct Fellow, Singapore Eye Research Institute. He is Principal Investigator in several studies of the retina involving diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment and age-related macular degeneration.
