Dr. Shimazaki graduated from Keio University in 1982. He was Chief of Ophthalmology at Saiseikai Kanagawa Prefeture Hospital in 1985. In 1987, he was a research resident at Boston University and Eye Research Institute of the Retina Foundation. He obtained a PhD in Medicine in 1990.

He is currently affiliated with Tokyo Dental College, Ichikawa General Hospital, where he was Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology in 1992 and 1999, and Professor of Ophthalmology in 2006.
