Dr. Tanito graduated from Shimane Medical University in 1996 and acquired his PhD from the Department of Ophthalmology, Shimane University Faculty of Medicine in 2003.

Dr. Tanito was a JSPS Research Fellow at the Institute for Virus Research, Kyoto University in 2003 and at the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 2004.

In 2006, Dr. Tanito was made Associate Professor of the Department of Ophthalmology, Shimane University Faculty of Medicine. In 2014, he was Director General of the Division of Ophthalmology, Matsue Red Cross Hospital.

In 2018, he became Professor and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology, Shimane University Faculty of Medicine.
