A/Prof Chew is a Senior Consultant at the Department of Ophthalmology, NUH and Associate Professor at Ophthalmology Department, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. Previously the Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at NUH from Aug 2001 to Dec 2010, A/Prof Chew is now the Strategic Director for International Outreach. A/Prof Chew’s specialty is in glaucoma surgery and research, particularly angle-closure glaucoma. He is helping to develop various new laser therapies for glaucoma such as modified iridoplasty and iridotomy. Over the last 15 years, apart from establishing a research group investigating angle-closure glaucoma at the NUS, he also spearheaded ophthalmologic research collaborations in institutions in USA and UK such as New York Eye & Ear Infirmary and Moorfields Eye Hospital.
